REGISTRATION REMAINS OPEN FOR JUNORS (13-14 YRS OLD)
December, 2009 - UPDATED 2/13/2010
Greenville Little League Family:
Believe or not, the 2010 Spring season is only a few days away.
As always, the volunteers who make our league a success will strive to provide
a fun and safe environment for our children to learn this great game. On behalf
of the Greenville Little League Board of Directors, I would like to thank all
past participants, volunteers and sponsors for your support and dedication to
our league. If you are new to our league, welcome!
2009 was successful in many areas. We had strong showings in the District 7 and
State tournaments and expanded the number of fields we practiced and played on.
For the first time, we fielded a Juniors team (13-14 yr olds) and offered free
softball clinics to girls aged 7-12. Even though the clinics were small, I am
excited that we were able to introduce the game to the girls and hope we can expand
on this in 2010.
After a slow start, it appears the long overdue renovation of the Braves Stadium
on Mauldin Road will get underway this Winter. If all goes well, Greenville Little
League will be able to call the new baseball complex “home” in the Spring of 2011.
In addition to the original field being renovated, four new fields will be constructed.
The complex will offer batting cages, bullpens, playgrounds and ample seating.
NOTE: REGISTRATION DEADLEINE FOR ALL DIVISIONS EXCEPT JUNIORS (13-14 YRS OLD) WAS
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12 JUNIORS REGISTRATION WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR SEVERAL MORE WEEKS
SINCE THEIR SEASON DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL AFTER MIDDLE SCHOOL SEASON.
We have posted the 2010 Spring JUNIORS registration form on the website. Please click on this link or go directly to www.greenvillelittleleague.com to get a copy. Fill out the form completely and return it with your registration
fee to the following address:
GREENVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE
c/o Bob Shaw
287 Henderson Rd
Greenville, SC 29607
Playing previously in our league does not guarantee you a slot, so please get
the registration form in as soon as you can.
The participation fee will remain the same as last spring at $135.00. This will
include a major league logo uniform complete with pants, belt, cap and jersey.
A “code of conduct” is included on the registration form, and we encourage all
of our league members to be respectful of others and observe our code.
Please note that your child must be at least league age 7 (7 years old on or before April 30, 2010) or in the first grade to be eligible
to play in Greenville Little League. Click here for League Age Calculator.
Also, please check that your address is within the boundaries of our league.
You may check the map of our boundaries by clicking here. If your address is outside our boundaries, you can find out which league you
are zoned for by going to the SC District-7 website at www.eteamz.com/scdistrict7/index.cfm or contacting the Greenville County Recreation Department.
Evaluations for Coach Pitch, Minors and Majors will be held on February 20
th and 21
st at Timmons Park. Your child must participate on one of these days. For those of you who have
not played with us before, this time allows the coaches to quickly evaluate each
child's skill level of hitting and fielding prior to the draft. This is a low
stress evaluation that helps us have balanced and competitive teams. Please do
your best to keep your child loose and calm and make it a fun experience. Click here for dates, times and other details on Evaluation Days. NOTE: EVALUATIONS NOT REQUIRED FOR JUNIORS DIVISION.
The draft for all divisions except Juniors will take place the week of February
22
nd. Practice and game schedules will be done after teams are selected, but expect
practices to begin immediately following the selection of teams. The season will
start with GLL Opening Day, Saturday, March 13, 2010 and conclude with Championship Saturday on June 5 .
For Juniors who play later in the Spring, participants' parents will be contacted
later with details on team assignment and schedules.
We have a dedicated group of volunteers who manage all aspects of our league,
but we always need more help to keep the league running smoothly. If you are
interested in donating your time as a coach, team mom/dad, field worker, etc.,
please let me or another board member know. It can be a rewarding experience for
both the parent and child. If you cannot find the time to volunteer, please make
an effort to spread the word about GLL to your friends, neighbors and children’s
classmates.
Finally, it takes money for our league to run. The registration fees only cover
approximately one third of the cost, so corporate sponsorship and individual contributions
make up the balance of our operational budget. If you, your company or your employer
would be interested in donating money to help our league, please let me know or
indicate it on the registration form in the appropriate section.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you at Timmons Park!
