About Us
While approximately 3,000,000 children in countries all around the globe enjoy
playing Little League, there are fewer than 100 employees of Little League International in the world. The Little League program is provided on the local level by adult
volunteers from within the community. Some may be the parents of current players
but many are the parents of children who participated in the past. These volunteers
give freely of their time to provide a healthy and wholesome, family-oriented
activity for the children of their community.
The Greenville Little League (GLL) is operated solely by volunteers under the
direction of a Board of Directors and is funded by player registration fees, sponsorships of local businesses, and concession sales. We field baseball teams in three divisions - Coaches
Pitch (7-8 years old), Minors (9-10 years old) and Majors (11-12 years old) in
both a Spring League that starts with practices in February and an instructional Fall League that starts after Labor Day and concludes by early November. And starting in
2009, we will field Juniors Division (13-14 years old) teams that will begin their
season later in the spring, after Middle School baseball season ends. In Fall,
2009, we launched an instructional program for Girls Softball (7-8, 9-10 and 11-12
years old) and hope to field teams starting in Spring, 2010.
Until Spring 2009, we had to play all our games on a single field at Timmons Park as it was the only ballpark within our designated local Little League territory that
meets Little League International requirements on safety and field dimensions
and has the required facilities for players and spectators. However, now we have
added Butler Springs Park with its two Little League-sanctioned fields and will now play games there as
well as Timmons. GLL is now partnering with the Greenville County Recreation District to
build a brand new 5-field complex on Mauldin Road at the former Greenville Braves minor-league stadium site and
hope to play games there starting in Spring, 2011.
Our Spring season provides a family-oriented baseball experience for over 200
boys and girls, with teams competing against each other through March, April and
May, concluding with a double-elimination tournament and three divisional championship games on Championship Saturday, just before school is out for the summer. Deserving players from the Spring
season are selected to All-Star teams that can then play in Little League International-sanctioned District and State
tournaments, with the Majors (11-12) team possibly advancing to Regional tournaments
and the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
Our Fall League from early September through October is focused more on instruction and providing
team-building experiences and skill development in a less competitive environment.
Score and team standings are not kept in the Fall and players get to develop their
skills at a variety of positions on the field.
We are a small local Little League but are very proud of our reputation for having
a safe and nurturing family environment while also developing highly-skilled players
and very competitive teams. Please contact us at any time if you have questions or comments about Greenville Little League.
